Early 19th Century French Provincial Oak Cabinet

About the Item

A French Provincial cabinet or cupboard from the early 19th century. Made from solid oak. Ready for everyday use. Originally probably the linen cupboard of a middle-class or wealthy rural household, used to store table linen, bed linen and other folded fabrics. Today it can be used in a variety of ways as a larder, filing cabinet, bookcase or bar cabinet. Traditionally crafted in gallery construction, the oak body is panelled on the sides with 2 double doors one above the other, a profiled base and cornice. The doors are of frame construction with panelled panels and hung on hand-forged external iron fittings. Original stylised key plates. Inside, the cabinet is fitted with a shelf in the lower section and 2 more in the upper section. Dimensions Height: 212 cm / 83.46 inch. Width: 132 cm (incl. headboard) / 51.96 inch (incl. headboard). Depth: 48 or 52 cm / 18.89 or 20.47 inch. Shelf depth: 43 cm / 16.92 inch. Height of the shelves: approx. 33 cm / 12.99 inch. Classic design combined with traditional craftsmanship and the beautiful texture and patina of old oak wood. In very good authentic condition with slight signs of age-related wear including slight drying cracks in the panels in places. One of the decorative tips of one of the hinges is missing. Locks are not original. The cabinet cannot be dismantled for transport. Only the shelves can be removed and the doors unhinged.
