About the Item

This early twentieth century French Louis XVI style buffet deux corps features hand carved details of musical instruments, gadrooning garlands, and a floral motif. The upper cabinet is fitted with two glass doors that open to allow access to an interior with a mirrored back and a single glass shelf. Below the glass front cabinet is a cavity with a mullioned mirrored back with bronze rosettes at each intersection. The lower cabinet has two drawers of dovetail construction finished with bronze laurel drop ring drawer pulls. On the inside of the left hand drawer is a metal plaque with the name of the business in Tours where the piece was originally sold. Beneath the drawers is a central panel with a carved bouquet of flowers flanked by two more doors that open to reveal an interior with a single long shelf that provides ample storage. The piece rests on classic tapered fluted legs. From floor to the top of the lower buffet section measures 40 inches high. Includes three keys with functioning locks. c. 1900.
