English 1840s Mahogany Cabinet with Leather Faux Books and Foliage Inlay

About the Item

An English mahogany faux book cabinet from the mid 19th century, with foliage décor, brass inlay and turned feet. Created in England during the second quarter of the 19th century, this mahogany cabinet features a varnished rectangular top sitting above an eye-catching façade. Two doors, adorned with a variety of leather faux books, are topped with a delicate foliage inlay. At the top of the doors, a row of green leather books followed by black, red and brown ones on which one can read illustrious names such as Alexandre Dumas, Shakespeare or Molière. On the book spines, one will discover Le Comte de Monte-Cristo or L'Ecole des Femmes. These doors are flanked with brass-inlaid side posts, and open to reveal inner shelves offering convenient storage space. The sides offer no décor and the back is mostly painted black. Raised on four cylindrical turned tapering feet, this English mahogany faux book cabinet circa 1840 will make for a great addition to any home, particularly placed in a study or living room.
