About the Item
This is a traditional black tansu in Japan.
It is thought to date back to the Meiji period and is made of cedar wood.
It has been used by near the hearth for many years, so the accumulation of soot has caused it to turn a natural black color.
The matte black color cannot be expressed in a new product, and with the addition of scratches and peeling paint, it seems like a work of art that expresses the natural changes that occur over many years of use.
The drawers are wide and each drawer has a different depth. The inside of the drawers is also in very good condition.
There are traces of where the keys were attached in the center of the upper and lower drawers, and the color has blended in over time and looks like a design. By deliberately showing the processing marks for attaching the keys, you can learn about the craftsman's skill.
It is also tall, so it can be used as a sideboard.
The simple design adds a Japanese element to your interior, and it is an item that adds the beauty of wabi-sabi to modern interiors.
