About the Item
This is an old Japanese tansu.
It was used in the Tohoku region around the Meiji period, and is made primarily of pine and cedar.
It has an unusual design with a short depth and slim profile, so it takes up less space than typical units.
The wooden doors are black on the left side and slightly reddish-black on the right, creating a natural color transition.
This thin, tall cabinet would also make a good sideboard for displaying vases or ceramics.
The color has been adjusted with traditional Japanese paint, and the patina that occurs with use has been preserved.
The internal shelf is a single piece and cannot be removed.
This tansu has been carefully used by hand over the years, and its appearance has gradually changed over time. We believe it is a harmonious and extremely valuable piece.
*There is some warping in the internal shelves due to years of use, but this does not affect its usability.
