Taichiro Nakai for La Permanente Mobili Cantu 1953 adjustable cabinet

About the Item

Taichiro Nakai (Japan) for La Permanente Mobili, bookcase, lacquered iron, teak, glass, brass, maple, ca. 1953. He worked to the international recognition of Japanese design. One of the only elements known about Taichiro Nakai is this one: he participated to the famous Italian competition, the Prima Mostra Selletiva del Mobile in Cantù from 17th September to 5th October 1955. He was very successful. That year, the jury was composed of very famous international designers :Gio Ponti and Carlo De Carli, Alvar Aalto and Finn Juhl. They awarded Taichiro Nakai with a special price for this lounge set. With his salon, he was able to create designs with Japanese principles as well Italian constraints. His lines are simple and clean yet energetic and organic, all characteristic for Japanese creations. A piece that deserves its place in history.
