19th Century chest of drawers with secretary

About the Item

Beautiful antique teak campaign chest of drawers with secretary. The chest of drawers is in original condition and structurally perfect. It has the original appearance with traces of use and the 1st polish finish is still present. The result is that the color and appearance are pure. Beautiful patina, something that you cannot apply but that is created by decades of use. This type of chest of drawers has been on a journey with an English officer. And you can see that and we want to see that with a campaign chest of drawers. The secretary drawer is finished on the inside with knotted maple veneer. The writing surface is still provided with the original gold-edged black leather. It is very special that the original key of the Bramah lock is still present. These chests of drawers were often equipped with 1 drawer that was provided with a Bramah lock. These are very special locks and keys. Bramah locks still exists as a manufacturer. Characteristics of campaign furniture; Consisting of 2 parts, brass corners, flat drawer pulls Origin: England Period: Ca. 1840-1860 Size. W. 99.5cm D.48cm H.99cm These cabinets were taken along in the 19th century by the British officers of the English army when they were sent to India, for example. They were made in 2 parts for easy and quick transport. The brass corners were attached to prevent damage during transport and that is why the drawer pulls are flat. The idea that they could move quickly in this way in campaigns/battles was outdated around 1900. The collection of campaign furniture of high-ranking officers had become so large over the years that it became entire relocations and was therefore no longer fast and efficient.
