Biedermeier German Bleached Walnut Chest of Drawers / Commode / Dresser

About the Item

Biedermeier chest of drawers hand-made in Germany in the early 1800s. The chest features three inset drawers and extremely straight lines, typical of the style. Each drawer shows beautiful, handmaid dovetail joints and can be used on a daily basis. The front of the chest is decorated by symmetrical walnut veneer. The veneer is book-matched on the drawer fronts, whereas the front corners show a rectangular inlay framing walnut burl veneer. The top and sides are flat; the only curves in the chest are found in the original arched feet. The lack of hardware is typical for the style, and the chest never had hardware. The escutcheons are made with heart-shaped inlaid walnut veneer. Overall this is a beautiful chest of drawers with masterly done inlay and veneer work. The wood grain of the bleached wood decorates the chest is an elegant and very natural way and makes this otherwise simple piece stand out. The chest of drawers will be a perfect addition to a room with either modern or antique furniture and it will provide plenty of usable storage space.
