About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this very rare original Camphor wood, brass inlaid, Chinese export, military campaign chest with sliding Secrataire desk and writing slope A very rare and desirable piece of military used campaign furniture, this was made during the English occupation of China, the Chinese were copying our furniture so they could capture sales from retuning dignitaries and military servicemen, the only pieces they had to hand were campaign, as such they added their own special touch with the inlaid brass. This piece is as fine as they come Most of these campaign chests are simply drawers which were for officers of medium standing, the higher ranking officials had secratcaire sections as this does, there is a small sliding drawer section inside this single drawer, a writing slope which is height adjustable, this truly is a very fine piece of furniture and would have been commissioned for a very important military leader. This piece has been deep cleaned, hand condition waxed and hand polished from top to bottom, there will be age and use related patina marks all over as you would hope to find with genuine campaign used pieces Dimensions Height:- 104.5cm Width:- 95cm Depth:- 46cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description pertaining to the condition. Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of creasing and wear, we recommend annual waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
