About the Item

George III Mahogany Chest of Drawers, Dumfries House Type, circa 1770 A fine George III period mahogany chest of drawers, circa 1770, of a type associated with Dumfries House. The chest is well proportioned, with three short drawers over three long graduated drawers, all retaining their original or period-style brass swan-neck handles with decorative backplates. Raised on bold ogee bracket feet, the chest has developed a warm colour and patina, with attractive figuring to the timber. The drawers are clean and run smoothly, and the piece is complete with a pair of keys. This is a solid and highly usable example of late 18th-century English furniture, combining elegance and practicality. Wear and surface marks consistent with age, including a little shrinkage to the sides, as expected from a genuine period piece. Dimensions: Height: 107 cm Width: 99 cm Depth: 57 cm Origin: England Date: Circa 1770 Materials: Mahogany, brass Condition: Good, with expected wear; structurally sound and attractive throughout.
