About the Item
George IV Solid Satinwood Silver Chest on Stand, England, circa 1820
A fine George IV period silver chest in solid satinwood, England, circa 1820.
This elegant and well-proportioned piece is constructed entirely from richly figured satinwood, showcasing a beautifully warm, golden tone. The rectangular chest features original brass carrying handles and a four-lever lock, and lifts to reveal a plain, clean-lined interior intended for storing silver or valuables.
The chest is raised on an integrated base fitted with two cockbeaded drawers, each retaining period brass swan-neck handles. It stands on turned legs united by a shaped apron, characteristic of early 19th-century English design.
A rare and handsome example in an unusually fine timber, suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors.
