Louis XVI Marble-Topped Commode
French, c. 1770-1780
An elegant Louis XVI commode from France, dating to the late 18th century, featuring a solid oak carcass veneered with feathered satinwood and mahogany crossbanding. The grey and white marble top, likely Saint-Claude marble, is in good condition with minor nibbles and a rough back edge, consistent with its manufacturing. The commode stands on tapered inlaid feet and is fitted with original gilt metal handles and escutcheon plates.
This commode offers practical storage with five drawers: three smaller top drawers and two full-length drawers beneath. The overall condition is excellent for its age, with some minor signs of wear, including a small section of damage to the lower middle escutcheon. The key functions but does not lock.
An exceptional example of Louis XVI style, combining neoclassical design with luxurious materials. Perfect for collectors or to enhance a traditional interior.
