pair of Italian 18th century Louis XVI st. Tulipwood and Kingwood commodes

About the Item

A sensational and most impressive pair of Italian 18th century Louis XVI st. Tulipwood and Kingwood commodes. Each highly detailed three drawer rectangular commode is raised on four square topie shaped feet with 'C' shaped pyrograved patterns on each side below a scrolling foliate a rosette designed top block. The two sans traverse (without crossbar) drawers at the bottom are decorated with rectangular panels in the center and Coeur-de-Rai pyrograved edges and cut corners. The rectangular panels are surrounded by tastefully detailed scrolling foliate marquetry with rosettes in each corner. The top drawer displays a pattern of circular designs separated by acanthus leaf designs and flanked on each side with columns decorated by weaved laurel inlays. Each of the three drawers have a centrally located keyhole escutcheon and opens to reveal the finished interior. The two sides on each commode are decorated similar to the front, with a smaller scale central panel and matching pyrograved accents. The top also repeats the same exquisite and intricately incised patterns as the front and each side with the rectangular shape and cut corners being surrounded by tasteful scrolling foliate marquetry and rosettes in each corner.
