Pair of Late 19th Century Campaign Chests with Brass Hardware, Made In Spain

About the Item

An exceptional pair of late 19th century Spanish campaign chests crafted from solid mahogany, featuring original recessed brass hardware and traditional hand-cut dovetail joinery. These chests exemplify the elegance and durability of campaign-style furniture, created for military officers during colonial campaigns and expeditions. Each chest comprises four drawers with flush-mounted solid brass pulls and protective brass corner mounts, emphasizing the piece’s utilitarian roots while maintaining refined craftsmanship. The rich mahogany has aged beautifully, developing a deep, lustrous patina. The drawers are constructed using traditional hand-cut dovetails—a hallmark of fine 19th century cabinetry—clearly visible in the exposed joinery. This technique, along with solid wood paneling and period-authentic brass fittings, verifies the chests’ age and artisanal origin. A rare Spanish maker’s stamp is present inside the drawer, further validating their provenance and manufacture in Spain during the late 1800s. Whether used as nightstands, side chests, or in a paired configuration as a dresser, these chests offer functionality, history, and timeless design. Construction Details: • Hand-cut dovetail joinery • Recessed brass campaign pulls • Brass corner brackets & Bracket feet • Stamped with “Made In Spain” Makers Mark • One-piece carcass construction (not modular) typical of late 19th century Spanish adaptations
