About the Item

Stunning Antique English Rosewood Glazed Pier Cabinet with Lattice Gilt Metal, Ebonsied Finish & Inlay Interior is lined with Fabric & Comes With A Working Key With Silk Swing Tag In the home, a pier cabinet is meant to sit in the wall between two windows (the pier). It may also sit between two columns. The cabinet is most useful in the entrance hall of any home. It is almost similar to the pier table, only that it has several shelves and drawers. It was during the Victorian period that pier cabinets first appeared in homes. At that time, houses were built with large windows to allow lots of natural light into the house. At night, homeowners would use candles to provide lighting. A small table of the cabinet would be placed in the space (a pier) between any two windows.
