Transition and Louis XVI styles dominate his work. Based in rue Traversière, he devoted his career as a cabinetmaker largely to the manufacture of chests of drawers and secretaries; but also cylinder offices, pleasures of the day, hairdressers, pedestal tables, etc. A cabinetmaker renowned for his cylindrical desks and colorful inlays, Jean CAUMONT prefers colored wood to mahogany or satin veneers. He thus makes real compositions of flowering branches, vases, baskets, landscapes ... and regularly uses musical or floral attributes. Jean CAUMONT ceased his activity in 1795 and passed on his workshop to his son, Claude Emmanuel.
