About the Item

This very rare and exceptional antique baroque hanging cupboard was made in central Germany in the early 18th century circa 1720. It was made from solid oak and pine and was painted in a very dark brown color. This elegant cupboard features slanted corners, a lockable drawer, an arched door, and a beautiful crest. The drawer with an elevated panel has segmented sides and a wooden knob. The drawer can be locked from within with a wooden pen. The elevated drawer front shows an exceptional wood grain pattern. The door above has a recessed panel with an arched top and the interior was fitted with a fixed shelf that gives access to the locking pin for the drawer. The cupboard was painted in a very dark brown color. The paint is heavily distressed and the bare wood color shines through a lot. The cabinet was gently cleaned and the color was fixed by applying a thin coat of lacquer finished with wax. In the past, both the lock and key were replaced. This was left as is, as it contributes to the worn and antique character of the piece. The cupboard is solid, clean, and ready for use.
