About the Item

A stately and beautifully preserved Swedish cupboard secretary dating from 1810 to 1830, crafted in oak and pine with a soft grey painted finish that highlights its elegant, understated proportions. This multifunctional piece combines storage and workspace, showcasing the refined craftsmanship of early 19th-century Sweden. The upper cabinet features double paneled doors adorned with vertical millings and a charming central rhombus motif, opening to reveal three fixed-height shelves—ideal for storing books, linens, or display pieces. The doors close securely with their original working lock, and one of the two included keys. Below, the secretary section is both functional and full of character. The drop-down writing flap reveals an antique white interior fitted with ten drawers of various sizes, each with brass knobs, offering ample and organized storage for writing materials or personal items. The desk is 29.92 inches high, but the flap is secured with a second original working lock. Beneath the writing desk are four spacious drawers arranged in three graduated rows, each fitted with brass handles. These drawers do not have locks but provide generous storage space. The front and visible surfaces are made of oak, while the rear and structural elements are pine, ensuring durability while maintaining a light and authentic Swedish feel. A rare and versatile example of early 19th-century Swedish design—ideal as a statement piece for an entryway, study, or living space, blending utility with timeless Gustavian charm.
