About the Item

USA, ca. 1920s or 1930s. A vernacular wood hutch with articulate geometrical design suggestive of an early 20th century African American cabinet maker from the southern United States. Constructed of solid wood planking and nails, it retains its original green and black painted finish. Top cabinet features twist-latch screen doors and period paper-lined shelves. The lower work portion has an honest, well-used surface and features a small drawer - supported by simple angular legs and a particularly lovely stretcher that can also serve as a shelf for light storage. Overall very good vintage condition, with storied age and texture. A powerful piece that was almost certainly a fixture in a rural, Depression era kitchen. From a well-respected American folk art collection. Dimensions: 38” wide x 14.5” deep x 61.5” high.
