Antique French Louis XVI Style Secrétaire

About the Item

Antique French Louis XVI Style Secrétaire This antique secrétaire, crafted in the style of Louis XVI, is a refined example of 19th-century French furniture. The 'top drawer' pulls out and opens as a fall-front writing desk with four drawers and a central cubby holding 4 small spaces for ink well compartments. The desk has a leather surface to write on with gold tooling around the perimeter. The secrétaire is constructed from of walnut with clean lined brass hardware. The use of straight lines, tapered legs, and simple brass pulls are all characteristic of the Louis XVI aesthetic which has restrained ornamentation, and a focus on functionality. The secrétaire shows minor wear consistent with age and use. There are a few small scratches and abrasions on the surface of the wood, particularly around the edges and on the writing surface. The brass hardware shows some signs of age and patina. 33" wide x 18" deep x 31" high (closed) 33" wide x deep x 31" high (open)
