About the Item
Louis-Philippe Flame Mahogany Flat Desk, Mid-19th Century – Former Notary’s Desk from the Loire Valley
Elegant Louis-Philippe flat desk, dating from the mid-19th century, originating from a bourgeois residence in the Loire Valley. It once belonged to a notary and was passed down from generation to generation. This is a genuine antique piece — not a reproduction.
This executive or writing desk stands out for the richness of its flame mahogany veneer, applied to all sides, including the back, making it suitable for freestanding placement (double-sided desk). It opens with four drawers on the front, all lockable with a single functioning key (included).
The top is covered with its original green cowhide leather, embellished with a gold-tooled border and gilt palmettes in the corners. The two sliding pull-outs on either side are clad in the same leather, also adorned with a gold trim. Both the drawers and pull-outs glide smoothly.
The drawer interiors are in solid oak, joined with traditional dovetail construction. The desk stands on four turned “Jacob” legs in solid mahogany, ensuring a stable and harmonious appearance.
This robust and spacious desk offers the ideal surface for working comfortably over long hours, while also providing generous storage space for supplies and documents.
Its double-sided design enhances the character of any room it occupies. The desk commands attention at first glance. Its leather top reflects both elegance and presence, while the entire structure adds sophistication and balance to the space.
More than a functional piece, this desk conveys a timeless charm and a sense of refined living. It invites you to carry on its story and make it part of your own.
The interior has been carefully cleaned to ensure a clean and odor-free environment for storage.
The piece is in very good condition, with a warm, age-appropriate patina. It has been regularly maintained with natural wax. The original leather shows a few minor signs of wear, consistent with its history and age.
