About the Item

Elegant Veneto desk from the Vicenza area, datable to the very early nineteenth century, at the height of the Directory period. The cabinet is distinguished by its linearity of form, understated elegance and quality craftsmanship. The frame, made of fir wood, is covered in walnut and is solid and compact, with shaped legs and balanced proportions (width 119 cm, depth 58 cm, height 82 cm). The upper floor is framed by a fine decorative perimeter pattern of inlaid slats, executed with different wood essences juxtaposed with great skill. The façade is symmetrically articulated: in the center is a large drawer, topped by a practical under-top pull-out drawer; at the sides are two small upper drawers and two doors below that conceal capacious compartments. The understated but functional interior retains the original setting and patina of time. The ensemble is very sturdy and intact, suitable as much for use as for inclusion in classically or eclectically styled environments. An authentic testimony to early 19th-century Veneto cabinetmaking. Contact us for additional information. Worldwide shipping possible.
