About the Item

19th Century French Empire Period Mahogany Dresser with Mirror was crafted during the 2nd Empire under the reign of Napoleon III, and features a revival of the style that was heavily influenced by classical Greek and Roman architecture with Egyptian artistry in the embellishment, which consists of bronze castings. The mirror is set on a gimbal which allows it to pivot to create different angles of reflection, housed between two solid pillars of mahogany capped with embossed bronze on top and at the base. The columns also support an arched cornice emblazoned with another floral bronze casting. The same treatment is duplicated for the casework below, with matching columns flanking the four spacious drawers which have been lavished with exotic flame mahogany for a luxurious effect.
