Antique 18th Century Georgian George III Mahogany Tallboy Chest on Chest, 1760
About the Item
A fine quality George III flame mahogany chest on chest/tallboy, circa 1760.
This elegant Georgian mahogany chest on chest is of the finest quality and is made from solid Cuban flame mahogany. The chest in two sections; the top having a stepped cornice with dentil molding, below an ogee shaped molding are two short and three long graduated drawers, each with the original cast brass Rococo handles and lock plate. The sides with chamfered ribbed pilasters, the base with four graduated drawers with the original Rococo brass hardware, the chest is raised on shaped ogee bracket feet.
This tallboy is simply better than most, the quality of the cabinet work is excellent, the finish and hardware is all original and it just has those features that set it apart from the more run of the mill chests on chest. Condition is very good indeed!
