About the Item

A stunning Federal period Sheraton deck-top chest of drawers, crafted in rich mahogany and dating to circa 1820, this piece showcases the elegance and symmetry characteristic of early 19th-century American furniture. The deck top features two small drawers, framed by a handsome scroll-carved backsplash, adding both function and refinement. Below, the graduated drawers, each fitted with turned mahogany knobs, provide ample storage while maintaining the chest’s balanced proportions. The piece stands on finely turned and boldly spiral-carved legs, a hallmark of Sheraton influence, which lends an air of sophistication and lightness to the design. The lustrous mahogany surface exhibits a beautiful grain pattern, and the chest retains a warm patina that enhances its overall character. In very good antique condition, this chest has been well cared for over the centuries, with minor wear commensurate with age. The rear legs have been reinforced with steel brackets (pictured), ensuring stability while preserving the integrity of the design. A superb example of Federal period craftsmanship, this piece would be equally at home in a traditional setting or as a striking contrast in a contemporary interior. 52h x 39w x 19d
