Furniture in Rosewood and Violet Plated 19th Century

About the Item

Called at the time -demicommode- this furniture is a medal after: Jean-François Leleu (1729 - September 3, 1807) convenient that was delivered to the bedroom of the Duchess of Bourbon at the Palais Bourbon. Jean-François Leleu is considered, rightly, as one of the most talented cabinetmaker of his time. After an apprenticeship, as a simple worker, in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine, he joined, as a companion, at the famous cabinetmaker Jean François Oeben, cabinetmaker of the Roy, installed at Arsenal. He has as colleague Jean-Henri Riesener who will succeed Oeben after his death in 1763. Leleu, disapointed, then passes his master's degree, which he gets in 1764 and opens his own workshop rue de la Contrescarpe, studio he leaves, little after a while, for larger premises, rue Royale. His reputation is growing very quickly. He became the main supplier of the Prince de Condé who ordered many pieces of furniture for his various residences. In 1780, he took, as a partner, his son-in-law Charles Antoine Stadler to whom he left his establishment around 1792.
