About the Item

A good quality early 19th century Georgian oak dresser having original shaped canopy rack with three shelves over three drawers to frieze and three false drawers flanked by panelled cupboard doors with replacement turned brass knobs raised on original shaped bracket feet. This elegant, functional, Georgian dresser is a nice practical size and retains a very good colour to to the oak. It is in relatively good condition for an item which will certainly have been used and abused for almost every day of the 200+ years of its life. Originally it would probably have sported wooden knobs, but these have now been replaced by tasteful, Georgian style brass examples which work very nicely on the piece. There is the expected old marks, scratches, scuffs and scrapes, but these have now blended in nicely and as an extra assurance the item has been through our workshops for a clean, tidy and natural wax in the traditional manner before being offered for sale. Dressers are generally regarded as freestanding, functional, statement pieces for both storage and display and they were incredibly popular in rural settings during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Almost every house would have had at least one. Circa 1800. Height 79.5in. Width 62.5in. Depth 18in.
