The traces of time are drawn one on top of another, infused into the changing skin of the rigorous metal forms that define these cabinets and chests. Like the tide (marea in Italian) leaves its mark, wave after wave, even here the hand of the craftsman has left its sign, oxidation after oxidation, creating a painterly effect that resembles water’s erosion of the material. Somewhere between design object and work of art, each piece in the collection, composed of a chest of drawers, low credenza and cabinet, is unique thanks to an entirely hand-crafted finish that transforms the metal surface into a delicate watercolour. DE CASTELLI “HARD COUTURE” Faithful to its decision to reinstate the special role of metal in design and experimentation, De Castelli infuses artisan ideas and workmanship into industrial processes, leading to entirely original results. The encounter with design inspires an approach to materials founded upon respect for their potential, be it hidden or obvious, which emerges slowly in a collection of pieces that, despite being part of a series, remain unique. Unique not only for the hand that has created them, but also for the singular cultural path that focuses on the aesthetic (and not just practical) value of the primordial material with which De Castelli shapes living spaces. A BESPOKE APPROACH Each object, even in the repetition of form, is a creative act in and of itself, one that incorporates a heritage of constantly-evolving expertise and research. The equation that relegates ‘cold’ metals to the margins of furnishing projects is thus overturned, bringing iron, brass and copper, in their infinite variations and finishes, to the centre of an entirely renewed stage, allowing them to finally shine with their own light. SUSTAINABILITY De Castelli has always been committed to making the entire production cycle increasingly sustainable, aware that metal, the material with which its business identifies itself, is precious and must be treated with care, without waste. PEOPLE FIRST The wide spaces of the De Castelli headquarters in Crocetta del Montello (TV) allow those who work to enjoy environments where order, cleanliness and safety are always maintained and guaranteed. An attitude of attention and respect for people that has led to the shared ethical code.

Rare Art Deco Streamlined Moderne Dresser by Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky
By Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky
Located in Lafayette, IN
Rare streamlined dresser by Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky for Red Lion Furniture. The count was famous for his wonderfully stylized Industrial designs and worked with major automakers of the day like Auburn, Cord, Packard, Tucker and the White Truck Co. This dresser features wonderful, asymmetrical streamlined lines, unique round drawer pulls, and Stunning Circassion Walnut Veneer. This dresser was originally designed by Sakhnoffsky for display in the "House of Tomorrow" during the 1939 New York World's fair! Some more info on Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky: Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky was born in Russia in 1901, the son of an Advisor to Tsar Nicholas II. Following the Russian revolution he escaped to the continent and began a career as an automobile designer emigrating to America in 1929. In America he designed many famous automobiles and his drawings of futuristic cars appeared in Esquire Magazine from 1934 on. In furniture he advocated streamline design as in the Bloomingdale’s Department Store furniture shown at the 1939-40 World’s Fair in New York. Outside automobiles and furniture, de Sakhnoffsky also created designs in the areas of aircraft design (Sabca), boat design (feather-Craft), Bike design (Murray), watch design (Gruen), and radio design (Emerson). This desk represents the perfect culmination of all of these influences and is one of the best examples of his 'streamline' furniture design aesthetic. Add to all of that the 1939 World's Fair connection and you have an extremely rare collector's piece that spans an almost infinite number of genres! Automotive designs by Sakhnoffsky: 1929 Cord l-29 Special Coupe 1934 Packard Twelve Model 1106 Sport Coupe & Runabout Speedster 1947 White Labatt Streamliner Delivery Truck 1938-41 American Austin Bantam Commander Gatti's 1937 International Harvester...
