Art Deco Dry Bar Cabinet with Gold Leaf Doors, circa 1930s, Restored

About the Item

This restored art deco cabinet features gold leaf double doors, trim and base detailing with lacquered burgundy exterior. Ideal for use as a dry bar for holding liquor and glassware or as an apothecary cabinet. Beautiful lacquered burgundy with gold leaf details, the interior is fitted with glassware shelves and a single pull out shelf. Working key is present. This circa 1930s restored storage cabinet in manner of Emile Jacques Ruhlmann would work great in an Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, Post-Modern or Mid-Century Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary, Space Age Mod, Scandanavian Modern, Danish Modern or Zen / Minimalist room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, or Classical room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. Consider using as a dry bar, curio cabinet, towel and linen highboy, sideboard or cupboard for your kitchen or dining room, vitrine or entryway closet. MEASUREMENTS: H 58" x W 39" x D 15.5 CONDITION: Restored, key is present and working. When we first acquired the cabinet it was in this same color and gold-leaf pattern. We touched up some of the areas of gold leafing where needed and repainted the cabinet by matching the color that was already present on the cabinet, and then added a lacquered finish. The interior was professionally cleaned and left original. There is still a lot of age visible underneath the finish, as you would expect from an approximately 100 year old piece. Some slight unevenness in the wood. Age and minor variances in gold leaf along with touched up scuffs and scratches. Very attractive antique piece ready for immediate use.

Caned Sculptural Cabinet by Vladimir Kagan for Grosfeld House, 1950s, Signed
By Grosfeld House, Vladimir Kagan
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This very rare sculptural caned cabinet was designed by Vladimir Kagan and crafted by Grosfeld House during the 1950s in New York, documented in early Grosfeld House advertisements (see photos). Featuring sculpted legs, a caned door (with original unaltered caning in excellent vintage condition) with brass handle, and interior outfitted with two compartments, one side with an adjustable shelf. While the cabinet is small in size, it is huge in personality. Vladimir Kagan's works have been highly valued by collectors and art / design investors, and his earlier works in the 1950s for Grosfeld House and Kagan-Dreyfuss are among the most sought after by 'purist collectors' like myself. Why do I prize his 1950s works above all else? I can write a short book on this, but one easy to explain reason is that this was a period unlike the rest of his career, where items produced in this time are hallmarked within that period - a distinction that his later works lacked. Essentially, everything post the early 60s blended together with the decades thereafter. A novice Kagan collector is content with anything by Kagan, even items produced by Directional and American Leather Company...

Italian Art Deco Bar Cabinet in Parchment with Inlays Signed by Anzani, 1930s
By Giuseppe Anzani
Located in Meda, MB
This bar cabinet was produced in Italy, in the late 1930s and is a really unique and special piece. Its tremendous historical and artistic value is what makes this item a real piece of art, hard to find and one of a kind. Firstly, let's talk about its history. It was produced most likely in 1939 in Mariano Comense which is a small village near Milan by the artist Giuseppe Anzani. Anzani has been one of the greatest, if not the greatest wood crafter and inlaid maker. He started his career as an engraver when he was a little child and he won awards for his skills when he was only 16. Later on, he started also to master the art of wood inlay, becoming the most skilled inlayer of all times. His fame was so big that people from all over the world used to come to his little laboratory in the small and unknown village...
