About the Item

Beautifully crafted solid pine bookshelf designed by Dutch designer Ate van Apeldoorn for Houtwerk Hattem in the Netherlands, circa 1970s. This piece features open shelving with clean, rectilinear lines and a striking display of natural wood grain, knots, and warm golden tones—hallmarks of van Apeldoorn’s signature rustic-modern aesthetic. Constructed entirely from solid pine, the bookshelf can function as a freestanding unit or be screwed into the wall for added stability. Its versatile proportions make it ideal for storing books, displaying ceramics, or housing objects in a variety of interior settings—from studio spaces and libraries to shops or casual domestic rooms. Shown with Ate van Apeldoorn Pine Bookshelf with Cabinet (LU922445476642) listed separately. The two can be stacked vertically to form a taller shelving system or placed side-by-side as modular companions. In original vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use, including surface scratches, small dents, and a warm, even patina to the wood.
