About the Item

Antique French Regence Violin Vitrine was crafted from hand-select hardwoods with a casework that resembles the form of a bass violin. The style is akin to a Louis XV style but with a heavier, more masculine effect. The chapeau de gendarme crown at top overlooks the casework, and provides a frame for the boldly carved Rococo centerpiece in full relief, flanked by floral & foliate sprays. The bonnet's lower edge matches the top of the upper display door in the form of an archer's bow, with glazing also appearing on the upper sides to allow plenty of ambient light within, more than enough to make artificial light unnecessary. The upper and lower doors are also hung with full length barrel hinges allowing them to open wide for easy access. The bottom of the upper door ad the top of the pair of lower doors follow a bowed arch form, matching the chapeau de gendarme crown above. The lower doors are also embellished with foliate carvings over the finely contoured raised panels. In between the upper and lower sections is a full width drawer with curvaceous form, carved with foliates. The drawer is also fit with a fancy steel bale pull with pierced guard, complementing the key guards on the cabinet doors below. The lower apron is enhanced with foliate carvings, beading, and boldly scrolled legs and apron for a splendid visual appeal. Circa early 1900s Measures 77H x 33W x 16D Available for pickup in Baton Rouge, LA.
