About the Item

Beautiful pair of wall mounted display cabinets designed by Carlo Ratti and manufactured by Industria Legni Curvati in Italy in 1950. These cabinets are made of bent teak plywood and have a unique design. Each cabinet has two glass shelves that match the curve of the cabinets. The glass is held in place by three brass clamps – one big clamp in the middle and two smaller ones on the sides. This adds a nice touch to the cabinets. What makes these cabinets special is the lovely pattern in the wood. It's almost like having two pieces of wall art. One of the cabinets is slightly bent, but you can only see it when it's not on the wall. Hanging these cabinets is easy – you only need one screw. They're not just for storing things; they're like functional decorations for your wall. These rare wall-mounted display cabinets will make any room look better! Priced and sold in a set of 2. Carlo Ratti opened a cabinet-making workshop in Monza with his brother Mario and exhibited at the first Biennial of the Decorative Arts of Monza in 1923, a salon of secessionist taste. On this occasion he experiments with curved plywood for the curved doors of two display cabinets. The company, specializing in the production of carved furniture, is very active. It grew: in the 1930s it had around a hundred employees. Ratti, adapting to the taste of the moment, undertook the production of furniture veneered in walnut root, modern or in style, which he designed himself. In 1939 he moved to Lissone, where, assisted by his children Piera and Angelo and his son-in-law Piero Berruti, he continued to produce bedrooms and dining rooms, economical but pretentious, mostly in Chippendale style, as the most fashionable worse. If Ratti proves conventional in this field, he redeems himself for the passion with which he approaches the study of wood bending.
