A striking example of Italian Art Deco design, this round side table was produced in the 1940s and bears the original label "Palazzi dell'Arte - Cantù," a prestigious institution known for promoting fine furniture and artisanal craftsmanship in the renowned furniture-making district of Cantù, Northern Italy.
The table features a circular top in highly figured birdseye maple burl, framed by a darker macassar contrasting inlay. Three elegant arched legs rise from a glossy black circular base and converge at the top, separated by ebonized wood spheres that add a sculptural and architectural dimension to the piece. The contrast between the golden-toned burl wood and the black lacquered elements is quintessentially Art Deco-sleek, geometric, and rich in materiality.
This table exemplifies the refined techniques of the Cantù ateliers, where exceptional woodwork and attention to detail were hallmarks.
