20th Century French Maison Jansen Bamboo Writing Desk and Chair, Louis Sognot

About the Item

Attributed to Louis Sognot (1892-1970), designer for Maison Jansen, this mid twentieth century French desk or writing table, is constructed of bamboo and features a red leather top. The corners around the top and legs are all detailed in brass. Its two drawers open using brass drop ring drawer pulls. Its four legs gently taper outward and are joined by an H stretcher that provides stability. This set includes its original accompanying bamboo desk chair, also detailed with brass and complete with a red leather cushion. The chair measures 33.75 inches high by 18.25 inches wide by 20 inches deep, with a 17.5 inch seat height. A striking addition to any interior, c. 1950.
