About the Item
Bent Moudt.
“Table for a Collector”
A very rare combined dinning table / worktable / writing desk.
Top and flip-down leaf of Brazilian Rosewood. Pull-out writing desk section of solid Brazilian Rosewood.
Frame and round tapering legs of oregonpine. Legs with Rosewood “shoes”.
Designed 1954. Made circa 1954 by cabinetmaker Arne Poulsen.
Model designed and presented 1954 at the annual Copenhagen Cabinetmakers Guild Exhibition.
Bent Moudt was a one time guest at the Cabinetmakers Exhibition and designed only a few pieces of furniture.
In 1954 he presented an interior labeled “A room for a Collector” that feature a wall unit, sofa, two easy chairs, a low table, a bench and then this multipurpose and flexible table.
The table was designed so it could be expanded if pieces in your collection etc would take more and more space during examination etc …
You can imagine a table filled with ceramics or sculptures and books, that still with the pull-out “writing desk” would allow for urgent correspondence to be made.
This table is the only of the models from the exhibition known to exist.
In addition to its quite unique versatile character, it is also made in a rare and delicate combination of wood species. Rosewood combined with Pine offers a strong contrast both in color tone but also in the dramatic graining found in rosewood compared to the more subtle and repetitive look of pine.
The very simple and modernist form work to accentuate the exceptional level of craftsmanship with which it has been made by the master joiner Arne Poulsen.
Bent Moudt was a modernist architect that quite early became involved with a segment of modernism that is sometimes slightly forgotten, but that both was a symbol of and also the foundation for modernity in the postwar era.
As the head Architect for BP – British Petroleum- In Denmark – he oversaw and designed the expansion of a great part of gas stations in Denmark from 1950s-1980s.
The table is accompanied by an EU Cites certificate valid for resale and transport within the EU.
