Blonde Arts & Crafts Desk English Antique 1900 Leather Oak Shapland & Petter

About the Item

An extremely charming and rare English golden oak antique Arts & Crafts leather-top desk in lovely condition. Made around 1900 by renowned Arts & Crafts makers Shapland & Petter, this wonderful desk exudes quality, abounds with elegant detailing and is sure to delight any interior. Strikingly attractive, reassuringly heavy and expertly crafted from beautifully grained English ‘Tiger’ oak, this desk packs in a lot for its well-proportioned size. It has a lovely large desktop with an embossed and gilt leather inlay and side pen holder, a very handy over-shelf, four large solid oak pull-out drawers, a lower shelf and a hidden sliding shelf to the left-hand side. The light or golden oak wood is particularly rare and features a stunning ‘tiger’ grain and the desk has sculptural balustrades supporting the over-shelf, elegant curved supporting architraves and shapely turned lower legs with metal feet for ease of moving. There are also the sumptuous, original eye-catching Shapland & Petter copper pulls to the drawers. All in all this is a gorgeous, beautifully crafted, rare and highly practical antique desk from one of the most sought after Arts & Crafts makers, which will add bygone charm and quality to any setting. CONDITION This is in very good antique condition. Structurally sound, sturdy and expertly crafted, this charming desk has only minor to-be-expected marks and wear to show its approximate 120 year age. The beautiful embossed and gilt leather has been replaced to match the original and the stunning wood has been waxed to bring out the golden oak’s natural beauty. The original key has been lost over the decades but the top-quality locks are all in place and a new key could be made. Overall it’s a beautiful, charming and rare desk in really lovely condition and if well looked after it should be just as splendid for generations to come - please see the photos.
