About the Item

An exceptional and most elegant French early 19th century Louis XV st. Kingwood, Rosewood, exotic wood, and ormolu bureau plat desk. The desk is raised by cabriole legs with fine pierced fitted wrap around ormolu sabots and striking richly chased foliate corner mounts in a wonderful satin and burnished finish. The scallop shaped apron displays two drawers decorated with stunning wonderfully executed exotic wood floral marquetry and scrolled foliate ormolu pulls and keyhole escutcheons. The sides and back also display additional charming floral marquetry designs while above is a fitted leather writing surface with a fine gold tooled border and central reserve framed within a beautiful Rosewood border with an elegant mottled ormolu wrap around gallery. All original gilt throughout.
