About the Item

A Recently refinished French transitional kidney-shaped desk. 19th century French transitional design between Louis XV and Louis XVI is timeless, elegant, and understated it works well in modern, contemporary or traditional interiors. This rare kidney-shape and petite size of this desk is exquisite and will comfortably fit into any room of your home and be a focal point. It could be used as its original purpose of reading or writing table or it could be used as a vanity with a mirror. 18th century bureau plats or writing tables were also called library tables as they were often found in the home library where the gentleman of the house would keep his literature and do his business transactions, a status of symbol for aristocracy. Gilt bronze banding outlines, middle flanked on either side with another drawer; supported on four under-stated marquetry legs on all sides and mounted with foliate bronze trim continuing to chutes terminating in cast brass sabots. We have a matching chair in our inventory in a separate listing. Picture of chair in this listing for illustration purpose only.
