A Very Fine Edwardian Carlton House Style Desk
About the Item
A very fine Edwardian richly patinated and beautifully figured mahogany Carlton House style desk of exceptional quality, stunningly carved with delicate line inlay and fabulous crossbanded detail throughout. The moulded and curved upper section with three quarter pierced brass gallery above an alternating arrangement of centred cupboard and six drawers with decorative brass pulls and escutcheons, flanked by a further pair of concave cupboard doors, all with gorgeous oval inlaid panels to the central reserves. The sloping sides of the super-structure opening to reveal storage compartment and each with a single frieze drawer to the front. The shaped and moulded desk top of rectangular form is fitted with a stunning green gilt embossed tooled leather writing skiver surface above frieze with three short crossbanded drawers, all with decorative brass pulls, escutcheons and keys, supported on elegantly slender and tapering square leg, terminating on brass toe caps and casters.
