About the Item

This is a superb antique Victorian flame mahogany dining table, Circa 1860 in date and twelve vintage shieldback dining chairs. This amazing table can seat twelve people in comfort and has been hand-crafted from solid mahogany. This superb table has five leaves which can be added or removed as required to suit the occasion, they can be easily removed and stored away when not required. The table is raised on four hand carved lobed and faceted tapering legs that terminate in brass cup castors. The superb vintage set of twelve Federal Revival shield back dining chairs, date from the second half of the 20th century. These chairs have been masterfully crafted in beautiful solid mahogany with hand carved decoration throughout, and the finish and attention to detail on display are truly breathtaking. The set comprises ten side chairs and two armchairs, all of which feature an attractive shield back design and "over stuffed" seats that have been reupholstered in a beautiful teal damask. This fabulous dining set will make a profound impression on your dinner guests and will receive the maximum amount of attention wherever it is placed THE BOTANICAL NAME FOR THE MAHOGANY THESE ITEMS ARE MADE OF IS SWIETENIA MACROPHYLLA AND THIS TYPE OF MAHOGANY IS NOT SUBJECT TO CITES REGULATION. Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany." The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree. Our reference: A3940b
