About the Item

A Important Louis XVI period gilt-metal mounted mahogany occasional table, by Etienne Avril, last quarter 18th century The shaped rectangular top with rounded corners and moulded edge, above channelled trestle supports terminating in splayed legs and brass caps and casters, stamped to one support 'E.AVRIL' and 'JME', (35 1/2in wide, 22in deep, 28 1/2in high) Stamped Étienne Avril (1748-1791). Avril resided on the rue de Charenton in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine of Paris. He became a maître-ébéniste in 1774. and gained renown as a supplier to Marie Antoinette at the Château de St Cloud.
