This extraordinary antique side table is attributed to the esteemed Merklen Brothers of New York City, renowned furniture makers active during the late 19th century. Known for their distinctive designs and exceptional craftsmanship, the Merklen Bros. were celebrated for introducing elaborately turned furniture in the American market, often influenced by European styles, particularly the Louis XIII revival. The table’s defining feature is its dramatic double spiral canted legs, an incredibly rare and masterfully executed detail that instantly captures the eye. This open-twist design showcases exceptional woodworking skill, the kind that is virtually impossible to replicate today. The apron is adorned with delicate spiral rope molding that mirrors the intricacy of the legs, creating a harmonious and richly detailed silhouette.
