Ferdinand Barbedienne Pair of Marble & Ormolu Urn Low Tables

About the Item

A fine pair of French Louis XV style Ormolu Mounted Rouge Griotte marble urns by Ferdinand Barbedienne (French, 1810-1892), now converted to low side tables with glass tops. The ovoid shaped urns surmounted with finely chased allegorical ormolu male masks flanked by foliage and open scrolled handles, all raised on a tapered square marble plinth with ormolu trim and cabriolet feet. The top fitted with a later circular glass top, both urns signed: 'F. Barbedienne'. The urns circa Paris, 1880. Please note that these can also be used as dining table centerpieces or Hors d'oeuvre - dessert stands - trays. Ferdinand Barbedienne (French, 1810-1892) was a highly important and prolific French bronze founder of furniture mounts and more commonly, bronze sculpture including figures, animals, urns, clocks and candelabra. His signature Varied from hand written capitals to stamp in capitals, usually “F. BARBEDIENNE, "F. BARBEDIENNE FONDEUR” or “BARBEDIENNE PARIS”. Measures: Height: 17 3/4 inches (45.1 cm) Width: 9 inches (22.9 cm) Glass top: 20 inches diameter (50.8 cm).

    Additions or alterations made to the original: Glass tops are later. Repaired: The necks of the marble urns, at the very top, have had some restoration and marble infill, but are in solid and stable condition. One tiny repair to the marble edge of one of the urns. We are happy to supply close-up images of the urn necks. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor fading. A truly beautiful pair of urns converted into low side table or dessert centerpieces. Overall condition is very good with all original mercury gilt, finely chased ormolu. Minor age wear and restoration to the top of urn necks. Please view all images.

    A Very Fine French Late 19th/Early 20th Century Louis XV Style Ormolu Mounted Kingwood, Bois Satine, Mahogany, Marquetry and Parquetry Gueridon (Round End-Table), Attributed to François Linke (1855-1946). The circular marquetry top with trellis inlay encompass by a ribbon-tied floral and ribbon entwining inlaid surround, above a frieze interspersed with four abundant floral, foliate and entwined opposing cornucopia mounts each centered by a bacchanal mask, with one frieze drawer, on slender cabriolet legs with an up swept X-stretcher surmounted by a circular under-tier with a basket weave mounted gallery.
