About the Item

Fine English Satinwood Marquetry Étagère, Sheraton Revival, c.1890 A beautifully crafted English satinwood étagère of oval form, dating to circa 1890, in the refined Sheraton Revival taste. This two-tier table is constructed in richly figured satinwood and features finely inlaid marquetry to the lower tier — including an oval reserve with scrolling foliate motifs and stylised mythical figures. The upper shelf is similarly shaped and supported on four tapering fluted uprights with subtle shaped brackets. The ensemble stands on slender legs united by a shaped X-form stretcher, centred by an inlaid oval roundel. The piece reflects the elegant neoclassical sensibilities that defined the late 19th century revival of Sheraton’s work, and may be attributed stylistically to the London firm Edwards & Roberts or related high-end cabinetmakers of the period. Dimensions: Height: 31.1 in. (79 cm) Width: 34.8 in. (88.5 cm) Depth: 21.8 in. (55.5 cm) Origin: England Date: Circa 1890 Materials: Satinwood, marquetry inlay Style: Sheraton Revival Condition: Very good antique condition. The structure is sound and the surfaces retain a warm, mellow patina. Minor old repairs to the frame, professionally carried out and not detracting. An elegant and decorative piece, ideal for use as a lamp table or display stand.
