About the Item
This is a large display table made in Japan. It is constructed of old wood used during the Meiji and Taisho periods (1900s-1920s), and the material used is cedar. The top and legs are both blackened and smoked, showing signs of having been stored near a hearth for a long time. The wood surface has remnants of soot and erosion caused by time, giving the piece a deep flavor that is more than just old.
The table, composed in such a way as to make the most of the material's charm, is both rugged and delicate. The thin, tight lines of the legs give it a stoic impression and allow it to blend seamlessly into contemporary spaces. It is an ideal “stage” for displaying sculptures, vessels, books, and other items.
The top and legs are firmly joined, and despite its slender appearance, it has a high level of strength. In fact, there is no wobble at all, and it can be used with confidence from a practical standpoint as well. However, since the material is very age-old, soot may adhere to your hands when you touch it. Also, there are no insects, but due to the deterioration characteristic of old wood, some wood chips may spill out. We hope you will understand these as the individuality of the material and enjoy the beauty of the changes over time.
This work is imbued with the spirit of "wabi-sabi. The tranquil beauty that can only be created by something that has been used, and the sense of completed presence that can only be found in imperfection. This atmosphere is quietly breathed into this one-of-a-kind table.
Tabletop approximately 2690mm × 310mm.
Weight: 16 kg

Our Philosophy
Objects always tell the truth.
All I can do is just to face with them sincerely and give
them deep affection as much as I can.
There is no boundary of nationalities and of eras in beauty.
But I think now is the time we choose 'Japanese style' and it
will be the best way to remind us of what we are losing
today and to question us about an essence of beauty again.
I hope that you can touch the memories which the objects here have,
feel and think of something invisible but exists undoubtedly.
