Pair of Italian 18th Century Louis XVI Period Chests/Side Tables
About the Item
An elegant and high quality pair of Italian 18th century Louis XVI period kingwood, rosewood, tulipwood, and Sarrancolin marble chests/side tables. Each one door, three drawer chest is raised by fine square tapered legs with fitted ormolu sabots and lovely inlaid fillets. Above each leg a remarkable star rosettes with inlaid fluted columns leading upwards to inlaid foliate reserves. The central door displays a wonderfully executed inlaid marquetry design of a book with a maiden on the cover amidst tied finely detailed fabrics and charming swaging floral garlands set on a wonderfully executed herringbone background and framed within a wrap around foliate band. Each curved side is decorated in the same manner. The door displays a pierced foliate ormolu keyhole escutcheon and opens to reveal all original hardware, a beautiful finished inside with an inlaid urn with flowers and three drawers each decorated with a fine wood fillet framing the stunning wood grain and ormolu pulls. Above are the original Sarrancolin marble tops with a fine mottled border.
