Italian Art Deco Secretary Vanity Dressing Table Attributed to Paolo Buffa
About the Item
Custom Italian vanity, dressing table or secretary with triptych mirror, in parchment and fruitwood, possibly pear wood, attributed to Paolo Buffa. Italy, circa 1935.
The base table and mirror are one unit and are not intended to detach. The entire piece is shaped like a triangular wedge so it can fit in a corner, but it is not necessary to do so as it is also suitable to be placed anywhere.
See detail image 14 for more specific dimensions.
Kneehole is 24” high by 21” wide by 14” deep.
Looking down from a bird's-eye view dimensions of the triangular form are 47 inches for the horizontal base and the two sides are each 32 inches.
Triptych mirror has reeded end panels and three parchment drawers on distinctive handmade wood slider tracks.
Miniature fluorescent light at top of center mirror under curved parchment covered wood diffusor. On/Off button is in the kneehole right under the middle drawer.
Two side drawers open horizontally. Above the middle drawer is a parchment covered pull-out tray which acts as a writing surface. It rests on the open middle drawer for stability. Note the custom brass trays for pen and ink inset in parchment writing surface.
Two side doors with parchment pillow panels on their front open to storage compartments, open on the bottom and with upright dividers on top either for papers or vinyl music records.
