Composition 0659, by Matière 28°, acrylic on plexiglas
Matière 28° is the pseudonym of a Paris-based artist who was born in St. Petersburg and has lived in Europe for 30 years.
Adept at abstract painting, he works on developing the principles of “the contingency of human gesture”.
He is influenced by the theories of David John Chalmers. In his work as an artist, Matière 28° examines the transformation of the consciousness into the unconsciousness and vice versa.
He works mainly with Plexiglas, never using canvas. Like Jackson Pollock, he mixes colours without using a brush, allowing the “matière” (matter) to find itself on the plexiglas surface. He demonstrates to the viewer how color is stretched across the color palette.
