László Ottó (1966): ORIGO METRUM FLUX [20220716]
About the Item
László Ottó (born October 30, 1966, in Pécs) is a Hungarian painter, recognized as a prominent figure in Hungarian geometric painting and respected in both international concrete-constructive art and Hungarian sacred geometry painting. His multifaceted creative work spans various (Western) art historical categories, including hard-edge, color-field, abstract expressionist, monochrome painting, concrete-constructive, minimal art, and conceptual art.
He is also an art theorist and manifesto writer. By merging practice and theory, he has founded styles within panel painting. In the realm of Hungarian sacred geometry, he is one of the few creators and almost the sole representative of this deep, niche-oriented artistic activity in contemporary art.
His painting blends 20th-century modernism with universal, spiritual art, exploring the visual world of geometric art in two directions: from ancient times to modernism and studying geometric efforts for the present and future. His goal is to create 21st-century geometric painting that is timeless rather than postmodern.
Summarizing: his main creative principle belongs to the domain of conceptual geometric painting, exploring the complex relationships between plane and space. His work reflects 20th-century painting movements, but rather than focusing on spatial optical illusions, Ottó emphasizes a transcendental and concrete spatial experience, a consciousness of spiritual space.

A Kay Whitcomb Enamel 1966
By Kay Whitcomb
Located in St.Petersburg, FL
A great enamel by Kay Whitcomb, framed, signed and dated 1966. Titled" Where your Treasure is, there will your Heart be also"
A note about the artist: " Whitcomb was born in 1921 in Arlington, Massachusetts, to a long line of New England metalsmiths, the Carr family. In a way, it was almost preordained that her life would be devoted to the crafts. While she hoped to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, financial conditions prevented it. With financial assistance from relatives and friends, she began her art studies at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 1939. Whitcomb recalls that in her third year, in 1941, she took an enameling class. Her instructor taught the cloisonné technique. Ruth Raemisch also used the same facilities, working on her enamels while regular courses were offered. Whitcomb recalls being intrigued by Raemisch’s techniques and wanting to emulate the distinguished German-born artist, whose style was based on the Limoges school of enamel painting. She completed her course work at RISD in 1942 while taking additional classes at the Cambridge School of Art. In 1944 she joined the United States Marine Corps Women’s Reserve at Camp Pendleton...
