About the Item
'Tomato' (1984) by Veronica Benning is an abstract pastel featuring bold red and green vertical color fields. Signed by the artist, the piece is matted and presented in a composite frame.
Veronica Ann Benning (1947-2013), based in Fort Myers, FL, was known for her pastel drawings mixed media paintings. She earned a BFA from Washington University and an MFA from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art. Benning taught painting at the Portland School of Art (now Maine College of Art) and the University of Southern Maine. After moving to Florida in 1993, she continued to paint regularly. Her work reflected her connection to the Maine landscape and her lifelong exploration of visual perception.
Drawing, frame, and mat are in excellent condition. Original artist title, date of completion, and identification are pasted on the verso dust cover.
